Paediatric Hypoglycaemia (BM <2.6) is a relatively common presentation in the Emergency Department. However, if we don’t do the BM it’s easy to miss.

Hypoglycaemia is generally caused by disruption in one of the following:

  • Carbohydrate intake
  • Carbohydrate absorption
  • Gluconeogenesis
  • Glycogenolysis

As most of us will remember doing the right initial investigations is important. BUT, we have had incidence where trying to collect all the samples has delayed treatment and harmed children. So  please follow the guidance below designed by our PEM team.
